On the slopes
Ski Val Thorens and you get year round snow on the Glacier de Péclet. There is plenty of terrain for everyone, but with a large proportion dedicated to beginners or low intermediates, this is a fantastic place to learn and enhance those skiing and snowboarding techniques. Advanced skiers and snowboarders should look to the endless off piste powder fields in Lac Du Lou or the hidden valley - a local guide will show you the hidden gems.
So we think this resort is best for Intermediates and off-piste terain, but there are good challenges for all skiing ability - you may just need to use the lift system a bit to find them.Ski area :
If you ski Val Thorens you are also in the ski region of Les Trois Vallees along with the following resorts; Brides Les Bains, Courchevel 1300 le Praz, Courchevel 1550, Courchevel 1650, Courchevel 1850, La Tania, Les Menuires, Meribel, Mottaret, St Martin de Belleville, Val Thorens
.
Off the slopes
Purpose-built and traffic-free Val Thorens has plenty of accommodation offering ski-to-your-door accessibility. From luxury hotels to private residences, you'll find over 23,000 beds available. The après ski is lively, with a great variety of cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs to suit all tastes and budgets, or you can try the local cinema. Away from the slopes there are other choices to keep you busy including swimming, tennis, a sports centre, or why not try the six kilometre long toboggan piste!
WE LIKE
- Extensive local slopes to suit all abilities and good access to the rest of the vast Three Valleys
- The highest resort in the Alps and one of the most snow-sure, with mainly north-facing slopes
- Convenient, gentle nursery slopes for families and those wanting to learn to ski
|
WE DON'T LIKE
- Not a lot to do off the slopes - although you can ski down to other resorts
- Some very crowded pistes and dangerous intersections at busy periods
- Due to it's popularity, lift queues are common, especially on the Cîme de Caron cable-car
