On the slopes
When you ski Les Gets, this lets you explore two main areas locally, the Chavannes Bowl and Mont-Cheri, ski holidays in this resort offer some great skiing and snowboarding - not to mention the larger ski area. There's large forested slopes either side of th evalley providing some great runs. .
Mont Cheri has wide open south facing slopes, mostly reds and blues, and is also the home of the snow park, with its jumps, rails and platforms. There's also plenty of piste of interest to snow boarders. The Chavannes Bowl is very popular, and is filled with blues, reds and some blacks. Off piste is available as well as some good off-piste runs through the trees.
Ski area :
If you ski Les Gets you are also in the ski region of Portes du Soleil along with the following resorts; Abondance, Avoriaz, Champéry, Châtel, Les Crosets, Les Gets, Morgins, Morzine, St Jean d'Aulps
.
Off the slopes
There's a lovely mix of accommodation, including traditional Savoyard chalets and more modern wooden-and-stone buildings - whichever you choose they are built to fit in with the alpine surroundings, and many offer ski-to-your-door convenience. This is a good place to bring kids with an excellent ski school, and a variety of reasonably priced restaurants. The après-ski is not as lively as some other resorts, with just a couple of bars to entertain the late night crowd.
WE LIKE
- Good-sized, varied local piste area shared with slightly lower Morzine
- Nice traditional village with a great atmosphere - and some ski-in ski-out too
- Loads of off-piste and when you do come back on piste - few queus at the lifts
|
WE DON'T LIKE
- Few challenging pistes at Advanced or Expert level
- To get to Avoriaz and the main Portes du Soleil circuit is a real slog, unless you drive to Ardent
- Due to altitude the snow can be a hit and miss affair in early or late season
