Ski Le Tour

Ski Le Tour and the new lifts have linked you to Vallorcine. As part of the Mont Blanc ski area in the Chamonix Valley there's hundreds of skiing and snowboarding slopes across the area, but this little resort has 21 and is close to Argentière.

Where

As part of the Ski Pass Mont Blanc area, ski Le Tour and you are in the Haute-Saone region. The Domaine de Balme area (le Tour and Vallecine) is easily reachable by flying to Geneva and taking a shuttle bus into the Le Tour ski resort, transfer times take around 2 hours all told. Although there are many ski lifts around the area, if you plan on staying in the resort (rather than in Chamonix or Argentière) and visiting the surrounding resort slopes you may want to hire a car.

On the slopes

Best known for the intermediate hills, if you ski Le Tour you get 11 blue runs and 9 red runs in the immediate resort, along with two excellent cruisy slopes for beginners. There's also one expert slope. The five ski lifts allow you to get around the area fairly easily although the real treasures of this ski resort may be found outside the general slope areas. Le Tour is famous for having the most snowfall in France as in a regular season there's up to five metres.

Due to its membership in the Ski Pass Mont Blanc area you also have access to 394 pistes at the nearby nine resorts which include Argentière, Cordon, and St. Gervais Mt-Blanc. Snowboarders also enjoy the area immensely due to the length of the large downhill slopes as well as the snow park area. Beginners also frequent this resort since it is generally quieter than its neighbouring resorts and has an excellent ski instruction school. The gentle terrain and beginners area at La Vormaine offers the perfect start for all ages.

Ski area :

If you ski Le Tour you are also in the ski region of the Chamonix Valley along with the following resorts; Argentière, Chamonix, Le Tour, Les Houches .

Off the slopes

The area surrounding the Le Tour ski resort is quiet with a focus on spa activities. Thus, you may enjoy exploring the spas that offer indoor pools, massages, and thermal baths among many other amenities. Additionally, there are plenty of hiking, ice skating, and other outdoor activities around the ski resort area that will keep you entertained while off the slopes. You will also want to check out the historical villages surrounding the resort where you will find many charming pubs and restaurants as well as plenty of local shops.

WE LIKE

  • A great place to warm up for a few days before venturing on to other slopes and pistes in the ski area
  • La Vormaine is regarded as the best place for beginners in the whole Chamonix area
  • The Domaine de Balme has some excellent off piste and powder areas

WE DON'T LIKE

  • A bit isolated as a village and not much accommodation in the immediate resort
  • Winds can close lifts and wind chill will go right through you!
  • Almost no après-ski you will need to go to Argentiere or into Chamonix 20 minutes drive away
