Ski La Grave in Hautes-Alpes and provided you are an expert, whether you are skiing or snowboarding, you'll enjoy the off-piste conditions. A one-off 'resort' in France that's for sure.
Where
Ski La Grave to find yourself perched high above the Romanche River. This ski resort is most famous for the 2,150-metre vertical drop of the Vallons de la Meije, but whilst there's a lack of green, blue and red slopes for beginners, the expert runs and off-piste are superb. The area is easy to reach from Lyon or Grenoble.

On the slopes
A truly unique ski resort, ski La Grave and you have the spectacular 2,150-metre vertical drop of the Vallons de la Meije, which attracts skiers and boarders from all over the world. There's no really groomed runs, no snow cannons, no ski patrols, two key lifts. If you are a beginner, there are nursery slopes and ski schools in nearby La Chazelet, while the more adventurous should hire a guide to explore the full range of skiing La Meije. For kids there's a Snow Kindergarten ESF (French Ski School) and sledding.
Off the slopes
Although La Grave is quiet, you'll still find a good selection of convenience stores, restaurants, ski shops and a couple of bars. Accommodation ranges from hotels through lodges to a variety of furnished rentals. For luxury the Residence Des Alps is the place to stay, with most rooms south-facing, offering great views of the Meije, its glaciers and its vallons. Other activities include ice-climbing, hiking, paragliding and snow-kiting, and there are also some lovely cross-country trails.
