Ski St Gervais Mont-Blanc to stay in a charming French spa town near the mighty Mont Blanc - Europe's highest peak. Great for beginners, skiing and snowboarding in France doesn't come better than this for advanced or good intermediates.

Where?

Close to Mont Blanc, ski St Gervais for the charm of a charming 19th century spa town set in a narrow river gorge. Part of the large Mont Blanc ski pass, it's in the Évasion Mont Blanc area giving you access over 500 km of slopes, including the resorts of Megève, Combloux, Les Contamines and Les Houches. The resort is just 70kms from Geneva so access is fast and simple - great for ski weekends then!

On the slopes

When you ski St Gervais, you get something for all levels of skier and snowboarder. Beginners will find an unusually good range of nursery slopes and long green runs to cut their teeth on, while intermediates will enjoy lots of long enjoy runs to stretch their legs and clock up the miles.

For experts, off-piste is the way to go with some excellent and easily acessible areas. Meanwhile boarders and freestyle skiers will enjoy two terrain parks at Megève and a half-pipe, quarter-pipe, pyramid, 320m slope and moguls at Mont Joux.

Ski area

If you ski St Gervais you are also in the ski region of Évasion Mont Blanc.

Off the slopes

With over 50 restaurants and bars in the St Gervais ski resort village, you'll never be short of somewhere to go. From French haute cuisine to pizza and fast food you'll find something to suit your budget and tastes. Other evening options include a nightclub, a casino, two cinemas, a free internet service and a youth club for children, while if you fancy some activities away from the snow your choices include: paragliding, ice-skating, curling, swimming and extensive walking trails.

WE LIKE

  • Really friendly resort that keeps people coming back year after year - also a good alternative to Megève
  • Predominantly a resort best suited to beginners and intermediates. Gentle forgiving pistes
  • Links into the Pays du Mont Blanc ski area, over 700km of piste, better for advanced skiers and boarders

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Return to resort by off piste or advanced run only - which is a shame
  • Lifts are old by some standards and are very slow
  • Pretty expensive and not a huge amount of nightlife if that's what you are after!
