Ski Les Houches for a quiet, traditional village ski resort close to Chamonix. This is a great resort for families. The slopes tend to favour intermediates but with Chamonix only 5 km away experts are well catered for.

Where?

If you choose to ski Les Houches, you will find it 5km away from the mecca that is Chamonix and all it's pistes! Being away from such a bustling ski resort, this resort offers a quieter family holiday and has the slopes to back it up. The area is best accessed via Geneva airport which is about an hour drive - or you can also use Sion or Chambéry airports at close to 90 minutes.

On the slopes

When you ski Les Houches you should know that the ski area is best for intermediate skiers as there are 12 slopes that present a moderate challenge for skiers and snowboarders out of the 55km piste area. Beginners will also enjoy the five beginner slopes and advanced skiers will enjoy taking on the legendary Le Verte slope that annually hosts one of the world's expert downhill races.

For people seeking more of a skiing challenge there is a cable car that can take you over to Chamonix ski resort down the road, or alternatively you could drive there. Skiers and snowboarders can also enjoy the snow park and night skiing that is often described as majestic, with the moonlight bouncing off of the well powdered mountains. Additionally, there are three nursery areas for those who may want to take advantage of the good ski schools here to perfect their art.

Ski area

If you ski Les Houches you are also in the ski region of the Chamonix Valley .

Off the slopes

The area surrounding Les Houches ski resort is quiet which makes it perfect for families who want to stay away from the après ski activities of modern French ski resorts. There are plenty of activities outside for when you are off the slopes including snow shoeing, hiking trails, and ice skating among others. For those who want après ski activities the lively village of Chamonix is directly down the road and is easily reached via the cable car or by hiring a car offering plenty of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs.

WE LIKE

  • Superb resort for families with wide slopes and almost no queues and Chamonix, with all its facilities, is only 5km away. Free buses run between Chamonix and Les Houches.
  • If offers the best tree skiing in the Chamonix Valley.
  • Famous world cup downhill course, the Kandahar run.

WE DON'T LIKE

  • If you want to branch out from Les Houches you will find the the lift pass for the Mont Blanc Unlimited area is very expensive.
  • Les Houches itself does not offer much après-ski - you will need to head into Chamonix for this.
  • More advanced skiers will quickly get bored here, you will need to head into Chamonix for more exciting runs.
