If you want to ski Salla in Finland, the Lapland ski resort is home to a few trails of differing varieties allowing for a nice well rounded family excursion in a small village that suits the family who wants to relax isolated perfectly. It's also the birthplace of alpine skiing in Finland. Near the Russian border with Finland, the area appears untouched by man for the most part and is a great display of nature with plenty of family orientated activities outside the slopes. You can access via Helsinki and then either choose a sleeper train or catch one of the several daily flight connections from the capital to both Kuusamo and Rovaniemi
On the slopes
With 15 slopes that are designed for skiers of all levels, ski Salla resort and it's great for the entire family. The longest run challenges its skiers to make it through 1300m and there is also one speed skiing slope for those who like a walk on the wild side. Plus, for experts the three black slopes provide an excellent thrill while downhill skiing.
Natural snow covers most of the area, but snow machines are also used to make sure the entire area and the beginner trails which are lower in altitude stay covered throughout the ski season. Plus, 11 of the 15 slopes are illuminated so that you can stay out for a good majority of the night if you are unable to tear yourself away from the thrill of the hill.
Off the slopes
One thing you will want to do while off the slopes when you ski Salla is take a minute to absorb the many natural views of the frozen tundra area complete with lakes, fells, and rivers. You will also want to take in the fun sporting excursions of snowmobiling and snowshoeing and make sure to catch the free feeding trip aboard a snowmobile sledge ride and reindeer.
Husky dog sledging is also a fun activity to take part in and the area boosts enough Finnish delicacies and conventional cross Atlantic cuisines to delight the entire family. There's also a spa for relaxation after a day on the slopes.
