Ski Resorts in China

It may not be the first country that springs to mind when you think about skiing, but China offers some great slopes for both the absolute beginner and the more experienced. While the resorts are largely undiscovered by foreign tourists, those expats from countries such as the UK, the USA and Australia have long since realised the quality of the ski resorts in China and flock there for their winter fun.

The skiing season differs between the main resorts, but the general rule of thumb is that skiing is available in China between mid-November and April. If you are planning a trip either at the beginning or the end of these dates check out the resorts as some only have seasons from December to March.

What Is The Atmosphere Like?

The atmosphere in China is that unique essence of the Orient that embraces all visitors. Standards of service are generally high as tourism has become more important to the country.

Who Will Enjoy It?

Have you ever heard of anyone going to China and being disappointed? Combine the hospitality, the snow conditions, the fantastic food and some of the most breathtaking scenery you will see anywhere and you can see why so many expats choose to stay in China during the winter and don't bother venturing anywhere else for their fun in the snow.

How Many Resorts?

There are five main ski resorts in China; Xiling, Alshan, Beijing Nanshan, Beijing Huaibei and Yabuli. Xiling is overall the biggest resort, while Huaibei is the largest with easy access from Beijing if you want to take a two centre holiday. The latter is also one of the most spectacular as far as the setting goes as the glade which contains the resort is surrounded by the Great Wall.

Staying In China

Hotels and villas are the normal accommodations available in the Chinese ski resorts. The former has all the facilities you would expect from top hotels, while the latter are self-catering establishments best suited to large groups or families who prefer to come and go as they please. All accommodations are situated either right in the resorts or on the outskirts so there is never far to travel to take part in the sports or the après ski in the evening.

Getting Here

Beijing is a good airport to head to for resorts including Huaibei and Nanshan. Both are less than 70km away from Beijing. Xiling is only 100km from Chengdan, to get there you need to take an internal flight from Beijing.
