Ski Resorts in Bosnia

Since the eastern parts of Europe became more accessible, and particularly so  when budget airlines started including them in their routes, several countries are now acknowledged as great places to go to for winter sports. One such country is Bosnia. It offers reliable snow, cheap passes and modern facilities. All great features for the budget conscious skier.

There are 40km of excellent slopes within a 30 minute drive of Sarajevo, so a winter break in Bosnia can encompass both great skiing and a chance to see some of this beautiful country. There are slopes here dating back to when the winter Olympics were held in Sarajevo in 1984, so if you are a skiing enthusiast you are getting the chance to go down the slopes that were graced by Olympic champions.

What Is The Atmosphere Like?

Cool, calm and collected is the best way to describe the atmosphere in Bosnian ski resorts. From a country ravaged by war only 20 years ago have risen great towns and cities and since the division of Yugoslavia, Bosnia had flourished as an independent country and the air is thick with positivity.

Who Will Enjoy It?

Everyone who loves snow and good food and enjoys taking trips to classy resorts will enjoy going to Bosnia. The incredibly modern infrastructure of the main resorts is very impressive. There is something for everyone in Bosnia, and plenty to do for those who don't have the urge to fly down the piste.

How Many Resorts Are There?

There are 4 ski resorts in Bosnia, the largest and best known are Bjelasnica and Jahorina and the lesser known are Kupres and Vlasic. Jahorina is particularly renowned for its variable terrain so is suitable for all levels of skill, whereas Bjelasnica is a vibrant and modern resort with numerous bars and restaurants and some pretty serious apres ski. The smaller resorts still have great facilities but lack the high drops of the other resorts so are perfect for families. Our resort reviews explain all the differences between the resorts and who they are best suited for.
