The snow is good and the pace relaxed, making for a great holiday in this charming village. With the two airports of Munich and Innsbruck around an hours transfer - it's very accessible too.
On the slopes
Ski Oberau and beginners and intermediates will be happiest. You'll find wide nursery slopes and a highly recommended ski school if you are just starting out. There's now an eight-person gondola that will whisk you up to the Markbachjoch novice's plateau at 1,500m. For boarders there is a half pipe at Auffach and a boarder cross course in Niederau, while for experts, the black runs on the upper slopes of Schatzberg are the place to go. Although slopes close to home will not stretch you too much - the interlinked resorts offer enough for everyone - and if they don't you can always take a short drive into the Ski Welt ski area.
