Ski Niederau

Why not ski Niederau in Austria this winter? Be based in a small traditional Tyrolean village that's had visitors coming for over 70 years. Skiing and snowboarding benefit from the Wildschönau ski area with links to the resorts of Auffach and Oberau.

Where

With low prices and gentle slopes, ski Niederau if you are a family or a beginner and want to be based in a small traditional ski resort village close to the SkiWelt inthe Tirol. Linked with the neighbouring villages of Thierbach, Oberau, and Auffach, you'll find over 70km of piste linked by a free ski-bus. The easiest airport access is via Innsbruck that's around an hour away but Salzburg and Munich are not too far away.

On the slopes

You'll enjoy 25 lifts serving 70km of piste in and around the Niederau ski resort. The resort sits at 830m, with lifts taking skiers up to 1903m at it's peak. This small resort shares a pass with Thierbach, Oberau, and Auffach, with access from the mountain via a modern eight-person gondola from Niederau. Auffach is popular with boarders, offering a terrain park with a half-pipe. The skiing and snowboarding really is good and will satisfy almost everyone. British skiers and snowboarders do come here quite a lot as the cruisy terrain offers you a perfect place to learn your trade. Niederau offers advanced skiers and boarders the three black runs in the wider ski area as well as some great varied terrain - making, in our opinion, this to be the place you stay! If you are desperate for more pistes, the lift pass also covers the Kitzbüheler Alpen pass which provides you with over 700km of trails more.

Ski area :

If you ski Niederau you are also in the ski region of Wildonschönau along with the following resorts; wildonschonau.

Off the slopes

Niederau is a small Austrian ski resort, but with plenty of young skiers and riders the restaurants, bars and cafés do plenty of business. Most of the aprés-ski in the area is focussed on this resort as it has more bars and a younger audience. Accommodation is available at all levels of luxury and expense, according to your taste and budget - but there is defintiely some luxury stuff here if you want to find it.

WE LIKE

  • Excellent pistes for beginners and intermediates - good ski schools too
  • Quite a lively resort for families and also for après-ski - without being too rowdy
  • Accomodation if of high quality and it's also close to the slopes for some ski-in ski-out

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Little variety for advanced or experts and the pistes are a bit fragmented
  • Pistes can get a bit congested with local children and parents when the weather is good!
  • There's not a great deal to do off the slopes in terms of winter sports or other facilities
