Auffach is nestled in the quiet Wildschönau region of the Kitzbuhler Alps. This beautiful valley has 4 villages-Niederau, Oberau, Thierbach and Auffach. Auffach lies right at the end of the valley. The Wildschönau ski area has recently joined with the Alpbach ski region under the new 'Ski Jewel' banner opening up even more pistes on the one lift pass. Located just 1 hour from Innsbruck and 90 minutes from either Salzburg or Munich airports, getting there is relatively easy.
On the slopes
Auffach is best suited to intermediates, if you are an advanced skier or boarder you are best to get to Niederau which has three good black runs including an excellent mogul run beneath the new markbachjoch gondola with a vertical drop of nearly 700m. Auffach has good snowsure skiing, including some above the tree line terrain where you can find good powder. For boarders there's a good fun park here with a half pipe.
If you ski Auffach you are also in the ski regions of Ski Juwel and Wildschönau.
Off the slopes
There is a good range of accommodation in Auffach, one to check out is the Gasthof Weissbacher which has run as a guest house for over 200 years! In addition to the skiing there's an ice rink, indoor pool, walking trails and snowshoeing
