On the slopes
While any skier will enjoy holidays in St Anton ski resort, it is experts who will really appreciate the Arlberg ski area - this is awesome expert territory, with miles and miles of off-piste, mogul and powder challenges. The beginners' slopes are based just above the village near Nasserein - ideal for gettgin started. For intermediates you have a vast choice. The Galzig and Gampen ski areas are great starting points for intermediates with a wide range of blues and reds. Also try the Rendl or long cruisy runs of the Valluga area.
For experts, there really are great challenges on and off-piste. With steep and narrow gullies, fantastic off-piste areas and moguls, the Valluga area is particularly good. But don;t ignore the the Mattun, Schindlerkar and Stuben runs as these are challenging and rewarding. For snowboarders - St Anton is though of as possibly the best place in Austria to come. Particularly for freeriding as there is so much good challenging off piste around the Kapall and Valluga areas and a good snowboard park at Rendl Beach. Still, with over 260 Km of groomed slopes and a great snow record, everyone will find plenty to enjoy.

Off the slopes
A mix of traditional and modern buildings in St Anton fill this narrow valley, with a choice of chalets or hotels to suit every budget and taste. With a compact village centre, once you quit the slopes you'll find plenty of good restaurants and cafes, whether you favour traditional Tyrolean food or more international cuisine. There is also some great shopping, and a superb range of après-ski choices, with bars and clubs aplenty. This is what gives the resort it's party reputation, with many staying open from 3pm until 2 or 3am. Popular choices include Bar Cuba, and the Funky Chicken. Don't forget other activities off the pistes, including ice skating, curling, bowling, a leisure complex, a sports arena with climbing wall and tennis courts and more. A world class ski resort.
WE LIKE
- Varied terrain for experts and adventurous intermediates - lots of it, once you include Lech-Zürs
- Often get very heavy snow, with generally good snow conditions throughout a season
- Very lively après-ski, from mid-afternoon onward
|
WE DON'T LIKE
- Slopes far from ideal for beginners or timid intermediates
- Pistes can get very crowded, some of them dangerously so
- Can get rowdy, with noisy drunks in the central streets in the early hours
