Ski Galtür and you're in one of Austria's highest resorts. Based in the Silvretta mountains there's stunning scenery and great pistes for intermediate to advanced skiers and boarders. There's 40km of local pistes and links to other resorts close by.
Where
Close to Ischgl, ski Galtür and you are headed to the Silvretta mountains and one of Austria's highest resorts in the Paznaun valley. A traditional village it is noted for its friendliness. Access is relatively simple with Insbruck around 90 minutes and then Friedrichshafen airport just under 2 hours away. This is a family friendly resort and one to consider for an authentic Austrian Alpine holiday.
On the slopes
If you choose to ski Galtür, the pistes are at Wirl, a five-minute free shuttle bus ride away. Here you can take the chair lift up the Alpkogel and you then have a number of blue and red runs. The slopes cater for a wide range of skiing abilities - but in particular the intermediate to advanced skiers and boarders. There are 40 km of pistes served by 11 lifts, including the Alpkogel eight-passenger cable car - visitors say that queuing is unheard of. With an excellent ski school for children and lots of gentle slopes, this is a great place for families, and indeed a great place for anyone to learn. There is also some great off piste on either side of the mountain and you are also connected to Ischgl and Kappl if you want to extend that piste area. There is actually a good snow/terrain park in Galtur - so boarders don't have to always go further afield.

Off the slopes
The highest village in the Silvretta range, Galtür is known as a lovely family resort, where the emphasis is on quality not quantity. You won't find a vibrant après-ski scene, but you will find a selection of friendly restaurants and bars in which to relax after your day on the slopes. The area is also a notable centre for ski-touring, and boasts over 70km of cross country skiing tracks and winter hiking trails
