On the slopes
With just three ski lifts in the immediate Silbertal village, you must be aware that the close resort skiing and snowboarding is very limited with only 11 acres of terrain spread over 3 pistes, but there is an impressive 710 metres of vertical descent. However, just outside the village is a chair lift that links you to the Hochjoch mountain and St Gallenkirch's pistes - all 30 of them! The Montafon area has an impressive 240km of pisted runs covering resorts like Schruns and Gargellen, so all abilities and standards of skier and boarder are catered for in the larger area. Snowboarders will enjoy the half pipe, and there are also 14km of cross country trails.
Ski area :
If you ski Silbertal you are also in the ski region of Montafon along with the following resorts; Gargellen, Schruns, Silbertal, St Gallenkirch, Vandans
.
Off the slopes
Silbertal is a quiet traditional alpine village in the Austrian Alps - there's little need to worry about lift queues - because there are only 3 of them! In the same way there's not a massive expectation for a rowdy après-ski scene. Traditional bars and restaurants in hotels are the order of the day - but this is a resort for relaxing and taking in the beauty of the mountains. Closeby resorts of St Gallnenkirch and Gargellen or Schruns provide more in the way of après-ski and facilities.
WE LIKE
- Excellent vertical for such a small ski area - all red!
- You are connected to Schruns and St Gallenkirch as part of Montafon
- Traditional alpine village in beautiful mountain setting
|
WE DON'T LIKE
- Very small resort in terms of pistes close to home - but Montafon ski area has 70km worth
- Almost no nightlife or real après-ski - go to Schruns or St Gallenkirch for that
- Low altitude can play havoc with the snow cover on lower pistes
