Ski Katschberg-Aineck-Rennweg and you get a snow-sure resort that prides itself on being a great location for a family ski holiday. With 80km of slopes this resort also offers plenty of challenging slopes to ski and snowboard along with traditional après ski.
Where
Literally located at the Austrian city borders of Carinthian and Katschberg, the Katschberg-Aineck ski resort considers itself ironically a part of Carinthian and is located very close to the spine of the Alps. Located off the A10 autobahn makes it an easy drive in from the Salzburg and Klagenfurt airports, or you can take the railway into Spittal an der Drau and grab a shuttle bus.
On the slopes
Ski Katschberg-Aineck and you're at an altitude of 1,640m bang in the centre of the Alps (St Margarethen goes as low as 1066m). There is always plenty of light natural snow during your holiday and with 70km of pistes which are wide and carefully maintained, this makes it an ideal location for those who are travelling on holiday with family. This is backed up by the 27 easy and intermediate slopes on offer across the two mountains above Katschberg.
In fact, there are many short slopes near the village for children while at the same time on the Aineck side of the Katschberg ski resort there are many black slopes for their more adventurous parents including the Direttissima which is known for its stunning difficulty but pleasantly challenging run. For those looking for an intermediate adventure there is also a 60ft tunnel under the autobahn to try out and a 6km slope that will take you from Anick to Lengau. Snowboarders are also welcome and for those who like to get the most out of a ski holiday there is well lit night skiing until 10pm. It's quite an undiscovered gem!
Off the slopes
The Katschberg ski resort area offers plenty to do for those who are looking for activities off the slopes with plenty of restaurants and cuisines to choose from as well as a wide variety of discothèques, nightclubs, and bars. But these are not rowdy all night affairs, they offer some vibrant Austrian après-ski that everyone can enjoy. One large area of interest that the resort offers for families are sleigh rides throughout the village, as well as riding lessons both indoors and outdoors. The accommodation is generallty of a very high standard. There are lots of four-star hotels as well as luxury apartments and 'chalets'.
