Ski Igls and you have the 'Innsbruck Glacier' ski pass. Some superb terrain, Innsbruck is 6km away and skiing and snowboarding, including the Stubai Glacier, is within an hour. The resort was the host for the 1976 Winter Olympic events of downhill and bobsled.
Where
If you ski Igls you get great views over the Inn Valley and you are connected by ski bus to five other ski resorts. Skiing and snowboarding in Igls is very convenient as it's a stones throw from Innsbruck and has year-round skiing on the Stubai glacier further up the valley. Airports that offer easy access include Innsbruck and Salzburg, although you can go further afield if that's convenient for you.

On the slopes
Beginners and timid intermediates will ski Igls and really enjoy this resort with the pistes of the Palschertkofel offerig 5 slopes and the nursery slopes being right next to the village centre. Although Igls itself only has 12km of runs, because it is connected to five other ski resorts via bus, a lot of people use this as a base, in order to then discover a huge array of terrain available to you. Igls itself is a good resort for families and beginners thanks in part to a good ski school and the aforementioned nursery slopes.
Ski area :
If you ski Igls you are also in the ski region of Stubai SuperSki along with the following resorts; Fulpmes / Schlick 2000, Igls, Neustift im Stubaital, Telfes, Tulfes
.
Off the slopes
A traditional Tyrolean village, Igls has a limited range of accommodation, ranging from five-star hotels to hostels - but for a bigger range, you can stay in Innsbruck. The après-ski is quiet, although there is a selection of restaurants and bars, but with Innsbruck just 6km away, you won't be short of options. Other activities available include a huge natural toboggan run, ice-skating, horse riding, an indoor swimming pool, and three indoor tennis courts.
WE LIKE
- Access to larger ski area and glacier with some great off-piste
- As a beginner the nursery slopes and the few runs above the resort are perfect
- A traditional and scenic setting, you are only 6km from Innsbruck
|
WE DON'T LIKE
- For good skiers and snowboarders this is purely a base - you will need to catch the ski bus to another ski area
- Poor bus links to glacier itself which is frustrating
- Being this close to Innsbruck means weekends can get very busy if the weather and snow are good
