On the slopes
If you ski Hopfgarten you are based at a relatively low altitude of 622m. There's 43 slopes locally along with 18 lifts, but the real gem is the SkiWelt circuit that you are a part of and lift-linked to. With predominatly beginner and intermediate runs that are of a cruisy nature rather than challenging or demanding.
Throughout the SkiWelt area there are 93 lifts that rise to a height of 1829m, the highest point of the collection of villages forming the SkiWelt circuit. This 279km circuit is perfect for intermediate skiers looking for a village-to-village adventure as well as some gret off-piste anbd a small number of challenging blacks. However, be aware that Hopfgarten's south-west facing slopes often lose their snow earlier than most of the other villages.
Ski area :
If you ski Hopfgarten you are also in the ski region of SkiWelt along with the following resorts; Brixen im Thale, Ellmau, Going, Hopfgarten, Kelchsau, Kirchberg in Tirol, Scheffau, Söll, Westendorf
.
Off the slopes
The attractive village of Hopfgarten im Brixtenal is often used as a base to ski the SkiWelt circuit. With some great Austrian bars and restaurants in the traditional village, you can sample the traditional Austrian fare every night. Hopfgarten's south-west facing slopes often lose their snow early, which can be a problem for skiers staying in the resort and just intending to ski locally. It also curtails the other winter sports locally earlier than most resorts.
WE LIKE
- Great pistes and terrain for intermediate skiers
- The rest of the SkiWelt - ensures there are slopes for everyone to enjoy or be challenged by - even experts
- Excellent snowmaking facilities - which is good because of it's altitude
|
WE DON'T LIKE
- Not so many facilities for children and families - especially compared to neighbouring resorts
- Can get queues for the cable car up from the village - which is also based at one end of the town
- Low altitude and orientation means snow can get patchy
