On the slopes
All types of skiing and snowboarding can be found when you ski Flachau in Austria. From family runs to world cup piste, beginner slopes to night time skiing, there's something for everyone. Intermediate and beginner skiers are particularly well catered for, while boarders will enjoy great slopes and a Snow Park. This is also the home of the legendary Hermann Maier, and you'll find a ski school run by his father, and a snowboard school brother run by his younger brother Alexander.

Off the slopes
Flachau is one of several pretty village resorts centred around the cathedral town of St Johann im Pongau, less than an hour from Salzburg. There is a good variety of restaurants serving both local fare and international favourites - try the Schnitzel or boiled beef and pancakes for a taste of the local food - plus mountain restaurants and sun-terraces for your lunch time stop off. The après-ski scene is good with plenty of bars open till late.
