On the slopes
Austria offers ski holidays in Bad Gastein that are suitable for all levels, though high-mileage intermediates will find it most to their liking. This area is not recommended for absolute beginners, with the nursery slopes generally rated as either too steep or too short, however, more advanced skiers and boarders will enjoy the off-piste runs at Sportgastein and Graukogel. Boarders will find there is now a park and half-pipe, but might not enjoy the high number of draglifts.
Ski area :
If you ski Bad Gastein, you are also in the ski region of Ski Amadé along with the following resorts; Alpendorf, Bad Gastein, Bad Hofgastein, Flachau, Maria Alm, Ramsau am Dachstein, Schladming, Sportgastein, St Johann im Pongau, Wagrain
.
Off the slopes
Eating out offers an impressive range of choices, over 35 in all, and the après-ski is good, with a choice of lively nightspots, and even a casino if you fancy a flutter. Away from the skiing there is a great choice of activities, including ice skating, curling, tobogganing, sleigh rides, ice climbing, and snow shoe walking. Overall this is an attractive town with great aprés-ski, though probably not a good choice for a family holiday with small children.
