Ski Resorts in Australia

Fancy leaving the great British summer behind to go skiing in August? That's the choice you have if you fancy skiing in Australia. Fair enough, there may not be much difference in the weather if this year's summer is anything to go by but what a talking point this will make at the coffee machine. "So where are you going this year, Benidorm? Tenerife?", "No, I'm off skiing in Australia!"

The southern hemisphere winter yields great skiing in the high country of Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. The skiable terrain around these areas is extensive and for those who prefer cross country skiing to flying down the piste there are numerous opportunities in the national parks of Kosciuszko and Alpine, and also in the Tasmanian wilderness.

What Is The Atmosphere Like?

Party, party party! The Aussies are renowned for their laid back, fun loving lifestyle and their ski resorts are no different. The villages may be small but they are packed with bars, restaurants shops and everything you expect from a top ski resort. Brits who have been skiing in Australia give high praise to the way the ski resorts are run, and relish the party atmosphere that is ever present.

Who Will Enjoy It?

Everyone, from tiny tots to those who should really know better than to try and squeeze themselves into a snow suit several sizes too small and then claim it has shrunk! The snow is great, the hospitality superb and after a hard day on the slopes there are plenty of evening activities to suit. The whole essence of actually skiing in Australia is a big thrill for most, and where else in the world can you ski past a Eucalyptus tree?

How Many Resorts Are There?

Australia has 10 ski resorts in the NSW/Victoria area; Mt. Baw Baw, Mt. Hotham, Falls Creek, Thredbo, Perisher, Mt. Buller, Dinner Plain, Charlotte Pass, Selwyn Snowfields and Mt. Buffalo.
